Some awesome matches.

I certainly am hoping for 5 PSU wins tonight.

I am also pulling for Corey Clark Iowa, he beat #1 seed Tomasello and this will be his 4th NCAA finals which he has yet to win.

I think, Retherford, Nolf and Nickal have realistic chances to win tonight. Joseph and Hall might need a bit of luck/help to win their matches, especially Joseph as he has Martinez to deal with. I was happy to see Tomasello lose, there's something about him that rubs me wrong!!

I agree, Cory is tough as nails, wrestling basically with one arm.

Joseph and Hall are not big 165 - 174 pounders. With weigh ins in the morning I'm betting that I-Mar and Jordan will both have 10 pound weight advantages.

Nevertheless, Joseph and Hall both already gave I-Mar and Jordan all they could handle earlier in the year. I-Mar looks human this tourney and Hall was beating Jordan late in his last match.

Katie bar the door for Bo's match.

Next year will be a bloodbath, everyone will be wrestling for 2nd place. It's in Cleveland, get your tickets early if you're a Penn State fan.

Oh and a healthy Suriano definitely makes it to the finals and maybe would have won it.

Totally agree about the future of wrestling in Penn State. I think you're also right about Suriano. Bo looks like a man on a mission in this tourney...certainly didn't take him long to make a statement last night :D

Bo is looking good, but Gabe Dean is a monster. Glad to see that ESPN made it the feature(last) match.

when Dean got pinned by a girl his first ever match , ...he pretended he was paralyzed,,,,,,,,WHAT A STORY does he go tonite ?

Went down in a tight one.

Total dominance by Penn State, 5 finalists - 5 champs.

Z-Pain got the OW and the Hodge Trophy for most dominant wrestler of the year.

Nolf won another major decision, all of his "wins" at nationals have been by bonus. He did lose a close one in the finals last year to I-Mar.

Vincenzo Joseph (red shirt freshman) pinned I-Mar who was going for his 3rd title.

Mark Hall (freshman) won a close one.

Bo Nickal won a close one over Gabe Dean who was going for his 3rd title.

All of Penn State's champs are back next year, along with a freshman 125 pounder who was seeded 3rd before he broke his ankle.

Get your tickets for nationals next year in Cleveland if you want to see another Penn State blood bath.

Can you say dynasty? There's aslo Jared Cortez to consider for next year. Barring injury that's 7 wrestlers who will dominate.  And Nevills at heavyweight. Wonder what Cael has up his sleeve for the other 2 weight classes?

Well, he has a stud 141 pounder Nick Lee who graduated high school early so he has been wrestling with the Penn State wrestling club for some time now. Cael has the luxury to red shirt him and start Kade Moss instead.

197 Matt McCutcheon will be back who is a very small 197 pounder. They do have a stud 197 pounder Anthony Cassar who was scheduled to fill in this year at 197 but has been plagued by injuries. I'm guessing that Cassar and McCutcheon will wrestle off for the spot.

Yes, Nevills placed 5th and a couple of the heavies who placed higher will be gone next year.

Plus, Penn State has some pretty good recruits already committed for down the road.

Yes, people are saying dynasty and a trip to the Iowa and Ok. St. wrestling boards will reveal the panic they are in.

Do you think Imar was in shock? Great pics.

Read a nice report about I-Mar. He is a stud. He usually gets away with a couple of power moves in his matches. Vincenzo couldn't be overpowered, he probably has the best hips of all the PS wrestlers. When Nolf pinned I-Mar last year, Nolf hung with him and out-conditioned him. I-Mar learned from that and learned to pace himself in tight matches. I-Mar looked worn down by the end of the 2nd period, he didn't look his cool, composed self, his power wasn't working with Cenzo. All I-Mar needed was a takedown but he lost his composure and went for the throw which Cenzo was ready for, Cenzo's move was really more of an inside trip, but directly chest to chest. I thought the same thing that you did, I-Mar didn't even try to bridge, maybe he couldn't. I think that the turning point started at the end of the 2nd period when I-Mar realized that his game plan against Cenzo wasn't working so he went for the big move.

OFB you have to click on this link, it has the Cenzo pin with Penn State legendary announcer, Iron Head Byers doing the audio.

With the backers Iowa has , their next coaching change may have a PSU connection. That Carver Family can dig alot of cash (coal $$ ) to get the leader they so desperately need .....Brands will be gone shortly ... Gable was also an ISU grad .

Yes, by the end  of the second period Imar did not look very confident. I think he went into the match thinking he would have his way with the "upstart" Joseph. In an earlier post you mentioned he did not look like Imar throughout the tourney, I would have to agree..

That's how Cael came to PS, we had a sugar daddy, a former PS wrestler who made it big in business, Ira Lubert. Lubert kicked in a million bucks to sweeten the pot to get Cael. I understand that Cael's contract is up this year and I have heard no scuttlebutt on the net one way or the other.

Brands is a good recruiter, he got Spencer Lee to go to Iowa, although there are rumors that Spencer has a girlfriend going to Iowa. I just think that Cael turned coaching on its head the way he coaches. He lets the kids have fun. They spend more time rolling around on the mat than climbing stairs and monkey crawling. Look at the kids at Iowa, Ok State, Cornell and Ohio State, they look like body builders. They have kids sucking so much weight that I think it hurts them in 3 day tournaments.

I remember that Iowa had a kid named Mike Evans a couple years ago, he wrestled 190 pounds as a high school senior and wrestled 157 his first year at Iowa. You're more like a piece of meat at Iowa while at PS you get to play dodge ball once in a while.

It also helps that Cael developed the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club. He has Zain Retherford, Jason Nolf, Cenzo Joseph, and Bo wrestling guys like Frank Molinaro and David Taylor.

Penn State loses 1 kid next year, Jimmy Gulibon, the kid who is slated to take his place, Nick Lee, graduated early from high school, in Indiana, and bypassed wrestling in his state tourney to instead wrestle with guys from the NLWC. He will be more ready to jump into the lineup as a frosh, or with the firepower that Cael has coming back he may red shirt him.

Cael is the key though, we need to hang on to him. Out of the spotlight, but assistant coach Casey Cunningham is a big reason for State's success, he is a bruiser in the room, and Cael still has some rubber left on his tires too.
