  1. He was among several others claiming that the use of one of the sedatives constituted "cruel and unusual punishment". I'd have given him a choice between that and going in the same way that he killed his victim. I'm willing to bet he would have selected the three-drug method.
  2. DuBois sewer rates may increase

Pretty sure you've lived here long enough to know that any contract between the two is only good until one thinks the other is getting away with something.
  3. DuBois sewer rates may increase

Don't know if it's contained in the CE story, but this is what's on another site....Sandy Township customers will not be subject to the increase due to the recent contract between DuBois City and the township.
  4. I'm not even sure that Sandy Twp. can enforce the speed limit for the same reason that they can't plow the roads.
  5. I find this to be a joke. The burden on the Commonwealth was to prove these individuals were guilty of the crimes that they committed and it did so. In the Holtmeyer case, the Commonwealth actually chose to go with the lesser of the options available to it, which was life without parole. The reason it did that was not because it didn't feel that it could get the death penalty but because Dotts' mother asked that it not do so. Her reasoning, if I recall, was that having Holtmeyer live the rest of her life in the confinement of a cell with the memory of the crime she committed was adequate. I don't know if it was ever granted, and I somehow doubt it, but after the trial she said other wish was that she wanted a picture of her daughter permanently placed in her cell. Now, to keep the sentence intact, the Commonwealth doesn't have to prove anything as tangible as her committing the crime and acting with such malice to warrant such a sentence but now has to prove that Holtmeyer is incapable of rehabilitation? That's a fool's errand. Take it as you will, but to me, this is nothing but an open opportunity for a get out of jail free card.

On many levels, I agree with you there. When you're talking about a screwdriver, hammer, etc., the actual seller is usually little more than an inconvenience, especially when it comes to price. Large retailers can buy in bulk which usually gives them some cost savings which, if they choose, they can impart to the consumer. However, I think that the prospect differs greatly when you begin to apply that concept to consumables such as food. Large chains are simply color by the numbers when it comes to food preparation which, while it leaves you with a consistent product, is basically the same thing that you can find at any one of their establishments. In other words, creativity is largely lacking outside what the corporate office considers to be creative. Not, as Jerry Seinfeld would say, that there's anything wrong with that. If I'm traveling and have only moments to spare, then I'll look for something that I know is going to be consistently palatable. But, given the opportunity to stretch out and explore, I find that local "hole-in-the-wall" places to be MUCH more preferable and actually leave you with a greater appreciation for their product because of the differences rather than in spite of them. Might those cost a little more? Certainly. But I've found the upside to be much more desirable. The downside? Those cheap locals usually don't have an app.

  9. You're dog must have a sister, Dogg, because if kind of behavior runs in the family, I'm pretty sure I married her.
  10. So, Dunkins is coming...

Or, perhaps, risking a catastrophic accident by making a tire-screeching, horn-blowing left out of the mall by JoAnn Fabrics on the theatre side only to make a right onto Beaver Drive instead of going to the light and going straight?
  11. So, Dunkins is coming...

Actually, I think that makes a lot of sense considering that, to exit on a left there, you'd have to jump all three lanes of traffic - counting the turning lane. If you exit by McDonald's, even if traffic is so bad that you can't make a left to the light, you can still go right, turn in one of the parking lots and come back down the hill where you can more easily make that left. Same goes for Midway where you eventually have to hit a light to go left on 255. There's nothing that gets me shaking my head more than when I'm trying to make a right out of Sheetz by Med-Ex and someone is sitting there for a LONG period of time trying to make a left. If you simply exited from that lot on McCracken and waited for the light to make a left, traffic would move more smoothly instead of having six cars backed up through the lot blocking everyone in.
  12. I find that happens to me as well. Also, when I get the notification box that someone has replied to the thread, when I click on the link in it to see the post, it does nothing. I usually have to go up and refresh the page manually to see the latest post. Still, I consider that to be a minor inconvenience in the grand scheme of things. I think, as a whole, it's been a much easier transition than what I first envisioned.
  13. Interesting storm earlier.

I had to drive through the East Side about 30 minutes after it hit. There were limbs on the road and trees down everywhere. It looked like someone had pulled a wood chipper through and left some of the debris where it fell. From what I saw, it was the only real part of town that was affected to that degree.
  14. Park & Brady - The Home Stretch

If I'm not mistaken, weren't all of those spots on that lot tagged with signs that said "Sheetz customer parking only"?
  15. So, Dunkins is coming...

I'm sure Dinky's will be a hot spot for the first few weeks, then the novelty will wear off. From the responses, I can actually see it taking a bigger bite out of Sheetz than Scotty's.
