State police at Troop G stations are warning the public about charitable donations that scammers claim will benefit the organization, as well as the family of fallen Trooper Landon Weaver. (MGN)

HOLLIDAYSBURG -- State police at Troop G stations are warning the public about charitable donations that scammers claim will benefit the organization, as well as the family of fallen Trooper Landon Weaver.

Police said there have been reports in the last few days that residents in the region have received phone calls for such fundraising efforts as the “Pennsylvania State Police Fund” and, more specifically, for “Trooper Landon Weaver’s family.”

Police said they are prohibited from allowing an organization to use a member’s title, position or any other information that conveys the concept of the state police without approval from the state police commissioner.

The state police said they do not participate in fundraising or charitable work, but they endorse fundraising for certain programs, including Camp Cadet and Crime Stoppers.

Police said anyone who receives a call should review written information from the charity before making a donation.
